Through the years Dendrobium 'Bantimurung' turned out to be the easiest orchid to grow in my garden. While other kinds of orchids I got just flowered once or twice (and tend to die after that), this orchid flowers year after year. Normally it blooms just after the rainy season. In Makassar this means that the flowers usually appear in April. Next to that the plants are easy to propagate or 'revive' by cutting and using the parts of old shoots that have produced
roots and new leaves.
Dendrobium 'Bantimurung' is a cross between Dendrobium 'Clara Bundt' dan Dendrobium lasianthera. The cultivar D. 'Bantimurung' was registered by C. Bundt in 1966. The family Bundt had for many years an orchid garden in Jalan Muchtar Lutfi in Makassar that was called 'Taman Anggrek
Clara Bundt'. Near the end of last century the garden got less attention and finally the garden and adjacent house were sold by the family. The new owner built a restaurant on the plot.
